 Hello! Good news...

 Here is my update:

 Disabling the plugins had no effect so I moved the .purple folder onto the
 C: drive and re-pointed the Env Variable. I watched Task Manager as the
 program started up ...functionality was totally frozen as the mem rose
 from 50,000k to 100,000k all the way up to 400,000k for Pidgin. Once it
 was there, I could use the program to open buddy list, send message, etc.
 As it was rising, it used 50% of the processor, but once it leveled off it
 used 0-3% at around 395,000k. The program appeared to be working a bit
 faster, but there were still frequent lags.

 Next I quit, completely removed the .dll files for each plugin and
 restarted. This didn't help so I removed the logs folder. Still no
 improvement. Finally I removed the buddy list blist.xml file and threw it
 on the desktop. Once I restarted Pidgin, the problem was completely fixed
 ...no lags, and the mem usage was at around 25,000k.

 The blist.xml file was 8.8 MB. I guess this is too big? Do you have any
 info about limits on the buddy list?
