 I can confirm that the icon next to the menu appears, as it has before;
 but the buddy name does not switch to bold, which is different behavior
 than pre-2.6.x.

 I'm not sure what is meant by "user's icon changed" -- the icon in the
 buddy list or the chat window?  I'm not aware of such a change.  Also, I
 never see the tray icon blink, only change to the "new message" icon
 (which has issues of its own, see ticket #6744).

 Is this controlled by the Message Notification plugin?  Has something
 changed there?
 I cannot remember if there ever was a setting to "set buddy name to bold
 on new message."
