 You want to download and install
 [http://sourceforge.net/projects/pidgin/files/Pidgin/pidgin-2.5.8-debug.exe/download
 this installer], which is "pidgin-2.5.8-debug.exe", not the source rpm.

 Pidgin does not interact with exchange but does do DNS lookups, however
 crashing is still abnormal. The event log error is unrelated to Pidgin.
