Comment:

 Can you grab the value of the idleaway preference from the prefs.xml file
 and look it up in the status.xml file and report back on what status that
 is? If you manually update the preference in the file (or simply delete
 the preference entirely) while pidgin isn't running does it work correctly
 after that? (Keep a 'broken' backup of your prefs.xml file to compare with
 and in case we want to try it again later.)
