 > Are your accounts, preferences, and saved statuses being lost? Only
 accounts? Only preferences? Only saved statuses? More than one category
 but not all three?

 It appears the accounts only are being lost

 > Do they get lost if you simply quit pidgin and restart it (without
 restarting the computer)?

 Nope.

 > If you run 'pidgin -d' the time they are lost does it say anything about
 having a problem reading the files in question?

 If it crashes again again I'll run pidgin -d is there anything in
 particular or any line number I should be looking at?

 > Are you having any other hard drive problems?

 Not as far as I'm aware. No other data has been lost recently and no other
 preferences are being forgotten or lost.

 Overall, could this be due to Pidgin being interrupted whilst it's loading
 the accounts. When the crash occurs pidgin's status is usually set to
 "waiting for network connection"

 I've submitted my wireless card issue to Ubuntu, so hopefully that will
 help things as well
