 Ok, sorry for my misunderstanding!

 What about showing a particular icon (different from the disconnected)? Is
 this a more polished solution for you?

 I'm really asking for this, because it can happen that accounts are
 automatically disabled without your wish (when there are connection
 errors, or when you sign in in another location), and if you forget it
 (especially when you restart pidgin, since accounts remain disabled), you
 might think you are connected, but you aren't.
