 While I agree with your initial assessment, this patches behavior attempts
 to duplicate the behaviour which currently exists on Linux (with or
 without tabbbed windows). Tested on Ubuntu 8.10.

 Newly created windows on Linux do not appear to retain their previous
 location and are always placed by the window manager regardless of tabbing
 or not. Now i may be wrong, and this may only be one of many window
 managers.

 Having said that, what would one prefer the proper (as well as consistent)
 behaviour to be?
