 For the record, pidgin did not have a bug causing the window not to
 deiconify, we simply didn't handle that case (the 'Raise' option did
 exactly what it said it did). The 'Present' option was added to support
 better notification for additional cases.

 That mandriva patch looks decidely odd. I have no idea why hiding the
 window before attempting to present (and deiconify) it would be necessary,
 but it will very likely cause the flashing you are seeing as it will cause
 the window contents to be hidden (and then apparently redisplayed, though
 I'm unsure what causes them to redisplay).

 If disabling the 'Present' option "fixes" the flashing then that patch is
 almost certainly the issue.
