 That would certainly be an improvement over the current patch, but runs in
 to problems of which-window-wins for saving the next window location.

 The core issue here is that Windows users (according to virtually all the
 reports I've ever seen) want the conversation window to always appear
 where they want/left it and have no way of having their environment do
 that (as the Windows window manager is not particularly configurable).
