 What about new installs?  I've setup four new boxes at various client
 sites.  I'm annoyed that I have to keep going to Google to search for the
 fix.

 It seems like the reason you don't want to do this is limitations with
 GTK.

 So either fix GTK, or dump it and use something else.  And before you
 remind me that it would require a huge amount of dev time to dump GTK,
 remember that you just told me (a user) that the solution to this annoying
 problem is to write a plugin.

 Pidgin is your app, do what you want with it.  I'll stop complaining and
 switch to Empathy.
