 When I set the proxy in Pidgin the error logs show that ports 5050 are
 blocked, hence why I don't use the proxy.

 From what you have said and the information I have read about the proxy
 issue. The yahoo protocol needs to handshake with vcs1.msg.yahoo.com on
 port 80, then the conversion data is transmitted via port 5050. If that is
 correct, is it possible to allow the handshake to vcs1.msg.yaboo.com to
 use the proxy route, and the rest of the communications done without proxy
 for port 5050?
