 The "Local Port" in the Pidgin Bonjour account is user unfriendly.

 When a user leave current session open and open his session on the same
 PC, Pidgin can't bind to port 5298 again. The "user" should open
 "Advanced" tab and change "Local Port" to something else.

 Even administrator unfriendly, as every user should have his own port
 configured and open in firewall.

 This port setting should automatically adhere to "listen port range" in
 network preferences in a "try next on error" basis.

 I will test a "virgin" Seven 64bit machine that I had access to with 2
 users logged in the same machine. I'm still unable to reproduce your
 success.

 BTW: Listen port range and firewall disabled, but still no fun.
