#12552: Pidgin quietly "hides" lost network connection without reconnecting

I have the latest version of Pidgin running on Windows Vista Home Premium
SP2. I'm using a secured wireless network.
I normally run Pidgin minimized into an icon in the system try. When I
lose the wireless connection, Pidgin does not report/show any indication
of a loss of a connection; it's tray icon remains the same too (see
screenshot 1 in which the icon seems to show that Pidgin is still
connected).
When I maximize the Pidgin window, it shows me that it's disconnected
(since none of the IM contacts are populated), but the status shows
"Available - waiting for network connection".
This seems misleading, since Pidgin has quietly disconnected, but I, as a
user, think that it still is.
However, when the network connection is restored, Pidgin *does not*
reconnect. It remains in the same state - the tray icon shows that it's
connected, but the main window shows no signs of reconnecting.
In parallel I tried running GTalk, and as the screenshot1 shows, GTalk has
reconnected within seconds, but Pidgin still shows the incorrect icon
without reconnecting.
So it seems that Pidgin does not or is unable to reconnect automatically.
