 there was used libnotify plugin in my pidgin. i had said this once.[[BR]]

 always buddies' own avatars are used in balloon messages instead of custom
 avatars. i say this 3rd time.

 and i say this 4th time:[[BR]]

 "So the problem is that the buddy icons displayed for your buddies in
 these "balloon messages" is not the avatar that is displayed for those
 buddies in the pidgin buddy list window and conversation window?"[[BR]]

 "Does this work correctly for buddies that do not have a custom buddy icon
 set?"[[BR]]
 since they even should not show custom avatars anywhere, ie it is not
 intended, they work correctly.
