 I'm not sure if I understand why its "ugly". Its simple a and effective
 way to implement the functionality while still leaving the groups portable
 from one computer to the next and staying within the limitations of the IM
 services. Any UI enhancement that allows a user to organize the groups in
 a way that does not represent this data in some fashion on the IM services
 is not going to be able to be portable. That is a huge drawback in my
 book.

 I know what I outlined is not any "new" concept, but it is an elegant way
 to operate within the limitations provided by the IM Services. The only
 "ugly" part I could see about the technique is if the user had to type the
 > to signify the sub-folder. This could easily be hidden from the user
 with GUI enhancements.

 Anyway, in reading this thread it seemed you were originally denying the
 request due to the portability of the solution, which is why I took the
 time to suggest another option that would still be portable.

 In reality it looks like you just don't think nested groups are that
 useful, and as a result it won't be implemented. That's certainly fine, it
 is open source after all, so anyone can code their own solution. Maybe
 I'll get around to doing so one of these days.
