Comment:

 i am on company network. it is weird though because i was able to get on
 via pidgin before this problem.... i am using pidgin for AIM and it is
 fine. I could also use the gchat interface on google.com but it is not as
 good as pidgin... and yes i do get timeout error for the telnet.
