 I had given up on any response to this. It's still happening with the
 current version of pidgin for windows. I really don't like the idea of
 installing another IM client to fix this problem, especially since I'm
 likely to hit the unknown key sequence again. If I'm going to install
 something like trillian (that I quit using in favor of pidgin), I'll use
 it instead of pidgin.

 I'm glad it's not just me though.
